Emory Wind Ensemble Repertoire, Spring 2021

After meeting strictly online during Fall 2020, we were able to resume an in-person wind ensemble in Spring 2021. Personnel was limited to adhere to a 12-foot distance requirement between musicians, but this nonetheless allowed us to form two chamber ensembles: a brass choir and a chamber winds ensemble.

Serenades and Fanfares – Sunday, February 28, 2021

The 12-foot restriction created listening environment challenges!

This was a brief concert out of uncertainty about having musicians successfully play 12 feet apart. However, the students did a wonderful job in sharing both of these works with an audience over livestream.

ARTHUR BIRD: Serenade for Wind Instruments, op. 40
ERIC EWAZEN: Fanfarria Castellana

Music With Friends – Thursday, April 22, 2021

Our Emory Wind Ensemble Brass Choir.

After the success of our first concert of the semester, we presented a longer concert in April. This program included a work by an Emory University composition student, Joshua MacLean, as well as other quintessential works for chamber winds.

JOSHUA MACLEAN: Atop the Hillside (student premiere)
STEPHEN MICHAEL GRYC: Six Romances After Mendelssohn
ZEQUINHA DE ABREAU: Tico-Tico
PAUL DUKAS: Fanfare pour précéder La Péri
WILLIAM BYRD: The Earle of Oxford’s Marche
JOHANNES BRAHMS: Hungarian Dance No. 5
